This seminar will feature 2 presentations.  The first presentation will discuss current industry conditions with the use of mining project case studies to provide technical advice on how investors can utilise technical studies to assist in making investment decisions. The second presentation will discuss the importance of people and governance processes in the estimation and reporting of mineral resources and ore reserves to access and manage the risk that the mineral resource and ore reserves are incorrectly defined or reported which will impact on business decision making, reporting, reputation and investor confidence.

Mark is a leader and consultant in geosciences and the mining industry providing advice, training and mentoring in all aspects of orebody knowledge. Mark previously presented to SGX in 2016 on the topic “A Framework for Presenting & Benchmarking Mineral Projects”. Since graduating as a geologist in 1983, Mark has worked in South Africa, Western Australia and Queensland in exploration, mining geology, practical geostatistics applications, resource estimation and reporting, grade control, mine reconciliation, technical reviews and auditing, and professional training and mentoring.  He has been consulting since 1997 and his technical experience covers a wide range of projects in a variety of commodities, geological and mining settings.

Simon is a mining engineer with 30 years’ international experience across multiple commodities. Simon’s experience has been gained in South Africa, Australia and the USA in gold, coal, base metals, copper, platinum, industrial minerals, diamonds and iron ore.  During his 10 years with Rio Tinto, Simon worked in major projects involving the development of block cave mines, whilst also gaining experience in operating open pit mines above caving zones.  Since joining SRK in 2010, Simon has worked globally in project management, due diligence and technical reviews for projects and studies involving both surface and underground mining.
