Over the last 9 years, Ray has developed an interest in closure planning and has assisted numerous operations in South Africa and internationally with the development of closure liability assessments and mine closure plans.
As a result of Ray’s interest in mine closure, he was a project manager on a rehabilitation project from 2013 until 2020, where SRK Consulting has been tasked with the development of closure strategies and designs and the implementation of rehabilitation measures. This has required Ray to manage a large project team consisting of client representatives, SRK personnel, various sub-consultants and contractors.
As of 2019, Ray has been mostly involved in mine closure-related projects, as well as technical review of closure aspects for due diligence projects.
